Reflections on Eddie Guerrero

As you know by now, Eddie Guerrero, died Sunday, Nov. 13th. He was found dead in his hotel room in Minneapolis by his nephew, Chavo Guerrero and a hotel employee.

Eddie was likely one of the most talented wrestlers in WWE. He had pure athletic ability and a strong charisma that transcended his heel status. If you read the wrestling websites, you know he is also respected by the those who cover the sports entertainment business as well as the fans.

I remember the program he did with Chyna or more specifically, Mamasita! True entertainment.

I also remember the well executed frog splashes and low rider antics.

Eddie, you will be missed. You are truly amazing.

Well, who would a thunk it? The Dead Man loses a coffin match. It can be said that it took two men to stop him. (Which it did.)

This was definitely the best match of the evening, clearly better than JBL and Rey Mysterio, which was entertaining through most of the match. And it was way better than that Rotten Egg smelling, sleep inducing match between Ken Kennedy and Hardcore Holly.

None of the matches on last nights card except for the coffin match, came close to the performance between Matt Hardy and Edge at the previous pay per view, Unforgiven or even the Loser Leaves WWE rematch on last Monday night's Raw. In fact, Holly and Kennedy weren't as entertaing as watching grass grow with a flashflight at 3 in the morning.

Who did Mr. McMahon fire on Raw?

No one.

But Mrs. McMahon fired someone.

J.R. Boomer Sooner himself.

Coach, JR and the King were summoned to to the ring to apologize for doing nothing last week when Stone Cold Steve Austin stunned all of the McMahon's. Coach quickly apolgoized and groveled. King said he would apologize if that meant keeping his job and JR said he was sorry Linda was stunned. JR wouldn't apologize or could care less about the stunners Steph, Vince and Shane received. Nevertheless, Linda, fires him anyway and then delivers a low blow!

DDP's latest venture is a book about excercise, but it's not about weighlifting. According to this article in the Wall Street Journal (yes, that is not a missprint) Page used yoga to flex back from injuries.

Luckily, "Yoga for Regular Guys" is co-written by Dr. Craig "Yoga Doc" Aaron, so it might be worth a look.

I think the Chris Masters vs. Shawn Michaels match will surprise fans at the Unforgiven Pay Per View.

I watched Michaels break the MasterLock (via a low blow) on Raw this evening. Masters threw the Showstopper to the floor after Michalels kick met its mark. The tension and excitement in the audience was unmistakably there!

I predict Michaels will lose, but Masters will be tested more than he has in any previous matches.

By the way, do you remember who has wasn't able to break the Masterlock in previous shows?

Guard Yourself against Wrestling Viruses

Did you know there are some computer virus propagators out there that target wrestling fans?

There are some sites based in India (and other places I am sure) that are creating web content with wrestling keywords, such as "Stone Cold Steve Austin" or "WrestleMania". However, when you get to the site, you find an article that doesn't deal with the subject and has has several commonly searched wrestling phrasese embedded in the text.

You click away.

And then you are in a pop-up blizzard.

The pop-ups try to infect you with a virus.

It happened to me. That is why my computer was out of commission (and thus my website) earlier this year.

Of coures, I didn't link to that site.

And I don't link to anysite that I think is suspect.

That is part of what I do. I search through wrestling material and filter out the crap for my loyal readers.

I suspect the program that gave me a virus was an Active X charged entity. I know how to stop Active X renegades now. Check out this article from the Kim Komando website, Active X Settings Advice.

According to this article in news-journalonline.com, Earl Hebner, WWE referee, was released for allegedly selling WWE merchandise without authorization.

Hebner was the referee in the infamous Montreal Screw Job, and the Andre the Giant vs Hulk Hogan Match on NBC's The Main Event.

Hebner's son, Brian, and Hebner's twin brother Dave, are both WWE referees.

Hebner usually referees main event matches for the company and is one of their top officials.

WWE Cuts Roster Drastically

Jeff Wilen, of the Dayton Beach News Journal reports several WWE wrestlers were cut.

I am unhappy that all the Dudleys, Bubba, D-Von and Spike, were all cut. Two Tough Enough winners, Maven and Jackie Gayda, were also released.

Others released include: Joy Givanni, Charlie Haas, and Matt Morgan.

Send Triple H to Smackdown

If I was Vince McMahon, I would be on a beach in Cancun right now....

Actually, If I was the head of WWE, I would send Triple H to Smackdown.

Without a title.

After arriving on his new show, Triple H would find no one would want to associate with him. Zip. Zilch. Nada.

He would be vulnerable to double, and triple teams constantly.

Forced to find a way to protect himself, he would slowly form an alliance with a few wrestlers, and then he would create a small faction. Eventually he would create a Four Horesmen/Degeneration X group and proceed to make a title run.

This slow build up would allow fans to get behind him and root for a come back. Triple H is a good actor and a master at psychological angles. We would see him plot to take power in Smackdown.

Killer Kowalski has trained Triple H, China, Perry Saturn, Chyna, A Train, Kronus, Big John Studd, and Chris Nowinski.

Kowalski has held the NWA Texas title, WWWF tag team title and many others. He is known for breaking the leg of Nature Boy Buddy Rogers and for severing a piece of Yukon Eric's ear. He has also fought Georgeous George and Whipper Billy Watson.

So You want to be a Wrestler?

Pro Wrestling is a tough business, You have to deal with constant pain, low pay (for most,and constant travel. But you know that. You've read Mick Foley's autobiography and Hulk Hogan's story. You know Hogan had his legs broken at a training camp when he started. But he kept training.

Foley attended Chris Adams wrestling school, along with Stone Cold Steve Austin. And both of them went on to bigger and (much) better things.

So you know you just can't wrestle with your friends in the backyard and teach yourself to become a wrestler. You need to go to a wrestling school.

But which one?

There are at least a hundred or more wrestling schools in the United States and Canada. Some are weekend mini-camps. Others are several months long.

To get into some of the wrestling schools, you need cash and a recent physical. Others schools require you to prove you have agility and stamina before you are accepted.

So how do you go choose a wrestling school?

Personally, I think you should go to the one with the best reputation you can find, even if it means uprooting yourself and traveling 3,000 miles. If you are really serious about becoming a pro wrestler, you need the best training and mentoring available. Don't settle for a poor trainer with poor facilities, and justify it by assuming you can learn the rest once you get a job with a wrestling promotion.

You need to get the best skills possible as quickly as possible to maximize your earning potential. If you spend a few extra bucks to get into a school that will teach you skills in 6 months, instead of you having to learn them the hard way over the course of years, the cost of the school will be worth it.

But how do you find a wrestling school that is a good fit for you?

I am going to help you with that.

I will be publishing several articles on various wrestling schools I have found. No doubt, you have heard of a few of them. But you haven't heard of all of them. In fact, I was surprised by a few I discovered. Some are headed by some wrestler's with outstanding credentials. Some of them boast megastar graduates.

Here are some of the questions you should ask of any wrestling school.

Is there a place to live provided?

Is there housing nearby?

Are there separate tracks for beginners, intermediates and newbies?

Is financing or installment pricing available

Do you know active wrestlers who are happy with the promotion?

Can they help you find a job later?

If you have no amatuer background, will they help you with fundamentals.

Will they teach you interviewing, character development?

Do they teach fundamental matwork? aerils? ring pschology?

Will they help you with a promo video (match), promo pictures, resume?

Do they have weight and cardio rooms?

How many rings do they have?

Is a ring for practice accessible all the time or only some days?

According to TBO.com, Whatley,54, died in Chattanooga last week. The cause of death was kidney failure.

In 1967, Whatley was the first black prep athlete to win a state wrestling championship. He was also the first black wrestler at UT-Chattanooga.

Whatley teamed with Tiger Conway Jr. to form the "Jive Tones" in the NWA.

Jim Spears recently picked the 25 males wrestlers's of all time. While I agree with some of his picks, there are several individuals who do not belong on the list.

He places Ric Flair at number one, ahead of number two, Hulk Hogan. That is definitely a toss up and there are valid arguements for a reversal of order, but why is Stone Cold Steve Austin number 16? Why do Jesse the Body Ventura (14), Mr. Wrestling II (12), Mr. Wrestling (11)deserve a better spot?
